Approach lighting system is not to be found at each and every airport. It is installed at facilities that require additional support for a pilot while landing. They are placed in a straight line along the recommended approach path. The system consists of 3 lights set evenly every 30 meters. Moreover, it also consists of a bar light which is 18 meters long. It is located 90 meters from the FATO zone (Final Approach and Takeoff Area).

If an approach path requires additional lighting, lights are placed in even periods, every 30 meters behind the bar light. These could be constant or flashing lights. It depends on the surrounding of an airport. Flashing lights are used in places where the visibility of approach lighting can be low due to the light surrounding an airport. Constant lights are red and they light omnidirectional.
