FATO (Final Approach and Take-off zone) is illuminated in the case of night operations except for situations when it overlaps with TLOF (Touchdown and Lift-off Area). If the FATO zone is in a shape of a rectangle or a square, the lights are set maximum 50 meters from each other.

The lighting consists of at least 4 lamps on both sides, including the corners. If the zone is in a different shape than those mentioned above, including a circular shape, the gaps between the lights should not exceed 5 meters. Moreover, the system should consist of at least 10 lights. FATO zone lighting consists of omnidirectional lights which are red or white. Their height should not exceed 25 centimeters. If the FATO zone lights may cause a threat to landing operations, they need to be integrated into the helipad pavement.
